Cheaper bananas!

NSX, the consortium developing a new ferry terminal and port at Clifford Bay has released its approach to customer charging.

"Our charging policy is based on the fact that Clifford Bay delivers massive savings for passengers, road users and rail freight," NSX Managing Director Stephen Grice says.

"We have taken the lead from Ports of Auckland which now returns its cost of capital for shareholders because its leadership has spread its charges across all users.

"Clifford Bay saves an owner driver truck $450 in time and fuel, travelling from Christchurch return, and they can do the journey within eight hours.

"The proposed NSX charges would be approximately $120 for the road freight going through the port. That leaves $330 of savings to be shared between the driver, the driver's customers and end consumers.

"That means cheaper groceries going north and south and cheaper bananas," Grice says.
