Safety report - Clifford Bay vs Picton

We asked South Maritime Solutions principals Mike Pearson and Tim Burfoot, both master mariners, maritime accident investigators and safety experts, to write a report on the relative risks of the Clifford Bay vs Picton as the site of the southern ferry terminal.
The major finding is that the risk of a major maritime disaster is increasing on the Picton route because the number of passengers of the proposed ferries and the size of the ferries themselves increasing. There have been a number of near misses recently that highlights the fact that these risks must be managed.
The best mitigation of these risks is elimination by moving ferry operations to a maritime route which is objectively safer at Clifford Bay.
